Gerdau acquired the Midlothian mill in 2007 from Chaparral Steel, bringing a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and local partnership. What began in 1975 has evolved into one of our city’s most impactful success stories, continuously shaping our economy, community, and future.

Gerdau is Midlothian’s largest employer, providing over 1,000 well-paying jobs and contributing to the creation of a stable, skilled workforce that supports families throughout the region. As a primary job, Gerdau exports steel products outside the region, which brings valuable revenue back to Midlothian. Primary jobs, like those provided by Gerdau, are crucial for creating a strong economic foundation, as they generate money that circulates throughout the local economy and supports additional businesses and services.

The company’s long-term presence has significantly strengthened the city’s tax base, allowing for continued investment in public services, parks, infrastructure, and schools. Gerdau’s ongoing capital investments, such as the recent addition of a new finishing facility, demonstrate their commitment to Midlothian’s long-term economic growth. Additionally, their solar project adjacent to the mill reflects a thoughtful investment in operational efficiency and infrastructure that is ready for the future.

Beyond its operations, Gerdau has shown unwavering support for the residents of Midlothian. The company sponsors numerous community events, contributes to local schools, and supports youth programs and extracurricular activities.
